LGT Navigator: Stock markets have priced in breathtaking pace of vaccine development

The first worldwide approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine in the UK and signs of a resumption of negotiations for an economic stimulus package in the US provided positive impulses, but were unable to drive up the stock indices any further after the record levels seen in some cases. Stock market sentiment was depressed by weaker data from the US labor market from ADP and the US Fed's Beige Book, which now reports only a moderate recovery of the US economy.

LGT Navigator: Wall Street remains in record spirits

Further hopeful vaccine news as well as the hope that the spread of the coronavirus in Europe will slowly decrease again provide a positive basic mood on equity markets. At the beginning of the month, the New York Stock Exchange continued its record hunt. In the meantime, however, the latest purchasing managers' indices are signaling a slowdown in industrial growth in the US and the eurozone, in contrast to a further recovery in China.

LGT Navigator: Does the positive vaccine news flow lay the foundation for a year-end rally?

Positive news from the vaccine development side and hoped-for record sales on “Cyber Monday“ were the focus of the stock markets on the last day of November. Although profit-taking dominated on Wall Street at the beginning of the week, the Dow Jones Industrial in November recorded the strongest month since 1987! The positive vaccine news flow and hopes for an end to the corona crisis could well lay the foundation for a year-end rally on the stock markets.

LGT Navigator: Vaccine hopes provide strong November stock market performance

On Wall Street, the main stock indices ended the week with further moderate gains after the Thanksgiving holiday and a shortened trading session on Friday. In Asia, on the other hand, the new trading week started with slight losses. At the end of November, however, global stock markets can look back on a strong performance of about +13%, mainly thanks to hopes for a soon applicable and efficient Covid-19 vaccine. This trading week will focus in particular on the latest results of the regular purchasing manager surveys and the monthly US labor market report.

LGT Navigator: Stock markets tend sideways in the absence of impulses from Wall Street

As the US equity markets remained closed yesterday due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Europe's trading centers largely lacked momentum. Even at the close of the week today, activity is likely to remain limited. It is eagerly awaited how strongly the “Black Friday“, which is important for retail and online trading, and the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season, will develop. However, market sentiment continues to be weighed down by the ongoing tense pandemic situation.
