Your challenge

Business Unit

The Central Investment Team provides a portfolio management service for the Firm providing both bespoke and model portfolios where appropriate. They work in conjunction with the Wealth/Relationship Managers providing investment management for Private Clients, Charities and Trusts. They manage portfolios across all major asset classes and adopt the Investment Committee’s views. The team contribute to the Investment Committee as well as sitting on various specialist sub-committees.

Brief Role Objective:

The position is in the Central Investment Team. The Portfolio Manager will construct and maintain suitable investment portfolios for clients, taking into account client’s requirements, tax situation and appetite for risk and reflecting the Firm’s investment views. The Portfolio Manager will support the portfolio construction and investment selection process and write commentary/research where required. Ensure that the overall business provides an excellent portfolio management service to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute towards the construction of model portfolios, produce customized investment strategies, proposals, and investment plans for existing and potential clients.
  • Manage centrally managed assets and provide advice in accordance with LGT’s investment process, adhering to approved investment lists and risk parameters.
  • Ensure that new client money is invested in a timely and effective manner in accordance with the client’s instructions, risk mandate and objectives.
  • Act as a contact for Wealth Managers on portfolio related queries.
  • Assist in day-to-day management of positions, monitoring performance and risk exposures on a daily basis - both of the portfolios themselves and the implementation options used within them.
  • Ensure that trades are executed in a timely manner and dealing errors are avoided.
  • Apply top-down and bottom-up investment insights to multi-asset class portfolios.
  • Help contribute to idea generation, vehicle selection, risk and performance analysis.
  • Monitor markets to understand current drivers and market sentiment at the asset class and sub-asset class level.
  • Assist with the evaluation of different asset classes and select appropriate securities for inclusion in client portfolios.
  • Evaluate impact of strategic and tactical asset allocation decisions and ensure client portfolios are rebalanced accordingly and in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate the impact of stock/fund specific, market and general economic indicators and take appropriate action within client portfolios.
  • Write clear, concise and technically accurate communications to clients and Wealth Managers.
  • Work closely with the Research Team to understand house views. 
  • Ensure that a coherent portfolio reporting and evaluation process is in place, documenting any changes to client portfolio (asset allocation or market factor decision).
  • Assist the team with the completion and reporting of all portfolio and risk measures, including the quarterly and monthly reporting checks.
  • Attendance at client meetings on request from Wealth Managers.
  • Provision of bespoke reporting upon request.
  • Assist with other work undertaken by the Central Investment Team, including:
    • The production of marketing materials such as Factsheets, Presentations etc,
    • The production of investment proposals,
    • Maintenance of the investment universe.

Your profile

IT:

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience of front office systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Good knowledge of External information providers, eg, Bloomberg, Factset and Morningstar.

Technical Requirements:

  • A thorough understanding of all asset classes and portfolio construction within the wealth and asset management industry.
  • Strong understanding of market cycles, drivers and characteristics, with experience applying this knowledge to portfolio management and positioning.
  • A working understanding of investment strategies (alternatives strategies, factor/styles, etc.) across asset classes.
  • Expertise in multi-asset portfolio construction and risk management, with sustained framework behind investment process.
  • Strong communications skills, with ability to articulate portfolio and trade objectives at both a high level and at more nuanced levels both within the team and to the Wealth/Relationship Managers.
  • Sound knowledge of UK wealth management industry and thorough understanding of the regulatory framework.
  • Experience within a similar role is desirable.
  • The role is deemed as a Certified role under PRA and FCA – Individual Accountabilities Regime and will require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications to meet the internal business benchmark.
  • Relevant Level 6 or 7 industry qualifications (including but not limited to IMC or CFA) is essential.

  • Relevant industry qualifications (including but not limited to IMC or CFA) is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; with the ability to build relationships within the Research Team and also with key Wealth/Relationship Manager desks across the Firm.
  • Excellent organisation skills, effective time management and delivery to deadlines.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, specifically in the context of portfolio management.
  • Attention to detail with dealing, general portfolio management, reporting and sending documentation externally to clients.
  • Actively assists others as and when required to ensure that the team meets its objectives.
  • Ability to keep abreast of developments in the financial services industry and of all relevant regulatory changes.
  • Ability to take the initiative within an understood framework of scope and authority.
  • Acts at all times in a professional manner and as an ambassador to the Firm.
  • Must be able to easily articulate complex market conditions and solutions to clients.
  • Deals with all matters promptly, professionally and effectively. Ability to work under pressure.
  • Conducts role in accordance with LGT’s policies and procedures adhering to the Firm’s compliance guidelines.
