Registration with biometric ID documents

With our new registration procedure and biometric ID documents, you can register with LGT SmartBanking for the first time in just a few simple steps. All you need is:

  • a mobile phone with a NFC chip (if Apple Pay or Google Pay is available on your mobile phone, you have such a chip).
  • A biometric ID document, such as your passport or ID card.
  • Your initial login details, which you will receive from the bank.

Then follow either the instructions in the app or the steps shown here. 

Step 1

Firstly, you will receive the initial login details from the bank, for example by email or post

Then you need to download the LGT SmartBanking app from your official app store.

Please enter the initial login data in the app.

Here you can see the four simple steps that are necessary to complete the login.

A video will now start in the app where you can see how to check your ID document for the biometric chip.

Look out for this square symbol on your identity document, which you will find at the bottom of this passport, for example.

Once you are sure that your ID document has such a chip, you can choose whether you want to register with your biometric passport or ID card.

For this example, we assume that you register with your passport. Then open your camera and take a photo of your passport.

After the photo, the first step is complete and we move on to the second step, scanning the biometric chip with your mobile phone.

Please also remove your mobile phone cover so that scanning works better.

You will now see another short instruction video in the app, after which you will be asked to scan the chip, as shown in the illustration.

This completes two of the four steps and brings us to the next step, a video selfie to verify that you as the passport holder are actually carrying out this process.

Here too, you will be shown a short instruction video before you take the video selfie. During the video selfie, different colours light up on your screen. This is a security feature to ensure that the person in the video is real and not, for example, someone holding up a photo of you.

After the video selfie, you have already completed three out of four steps. Now you just need to enter some final information.

Firstly, set yourself a new and secure password that meets our security criteria. Never pass this password on to third parties, not even to LGT employees.

Now give your newly registered device a name with which you can distinguish it from other devices that you may also want to use for LGT SmartBanking.

Activate the push notifications. This is an important step in order to be able to place payment or trading orders in the app, for example.

Activate the biometric login from your mobile phone now so that you can log in even more easily in future.

Congratulations, you have completed all four steps of the registration process!

In a final step, your LGT SmartBanking dashboard will load for the first time.

Alternative registration method - login with cryptogram letter

As LGT, we recommend registering using the biometric method described above on this page. However, if your device does not support this method, there is also the option of registering initially with LGT SmartBanking using a physical letter with a cryptogram. If you want to register using the cryptogram letter, you will need the following documents:

  • Access data letter (user name and initial password)
  • Cryptogram letter

Then follow the instructions shown for mobile devices.

Step 1

To start the process, please enter the user name and the initial password from the access data letter.

Step 2

Now set a new password.

Have the cryptogram letter you received by post ready.

Step 4

Please scan the cryptogram on the letter.

Step 5

Activate the biometric login from your mobile phone now so that you can log in even more easily in future.

Congratulations, you have completed all steps of the registration process!
