On this page we describe the services relating to all aspects of credit cards. We explain the most important features and functions of our services.
If necessary, we make occasional use of certain technical terms which are specified by law and which we explain in the following text.
This page is for information purposes only. The agreement that you conclude with LGT Bank AG Zweigniederlassung Deutschland (referred to in brief as LGT Deutschland) or with the head office of LGT Bank AG in Liechtenstein (referred to in brief LGT Liechtenstein) contains the legal provisions.
A credit card is a card that you can use to pay for goods in stores, in vending machines and online and to withdraw cash from a cash dispenser (also called a cashpoint). Payments and cash withdrawals with your credit card are not debited from your bank account immediately. Instead all the payments and cash withdrawals you make during one month are collected and debited from your bank account at or after the end of the month.
Your LGT Deutschland client advisor will give you your credit card. The credit card is not issued by LGT Deutschland, but by a credit card provider (referred to also as a credit card company) which LGT Deutschland works with.
You will receive your monthly statement from the credit card provider. It shows all the payments and cash withdrawals you have made with your credit card within the statement period.
Because you are borrowing money every time you make a payment or withdraw cash, there is a card limit. This is the maximum total of all the payments and cash withdrawals in one month.
You will receive a personal code, also known as a PIN code or simply a PIN, for each credit card. PIN stands for personal identification number. Your PIN is a confidential number and you must keep it secret. An example of a PIN is 9523.
The general terms and conditions for credit cards (credit card conditions) apply to the use of credit cards. The credit card conditions cover the services offered by the credit card company in relation to the credit card.
The credit card company that we work with provides physical credit cards.
These are some examples of the services that the credit card company provides with credit cards:
You can withdraw cash from cash dispensers in Germany and abroad with your credit card and your personal code or PIN. This applies to all cash dispensers which have the same credit card company symbol that appears on your credit card. You can withdraw cash up to an agreed maximum limit.
In the case of contactless cash withdrawal or NFC, you simply need to hold the physical credit card close to the NFC symbol. NFC stands for near field communication.
POS stands for point of sale. A store checkout is a point of sale. A POS device is what allows you to make a payment with your credit card. You will find a POS device at your supermarket checkout, for example.
You can make cashless payments up to the agreed limit at store checkouts which have the symbol of the credit card service using your credit card and PIN in Germany and abroad. You can only use digital credit cards at checkouts with the contactless function (NFC) of the credit card service.
Making small payments at the point of sale: You can make contactless payments at store checkouts which have the symbol of the contactless function (NFC) of the credit card service up to the amount of EUR 50 per individual transaction. You do not need to enter your PIN.
For security reasons, the total amount of consecutive payments made without entering the PIN is restricted. If you exceed this amount, you must enter your PIN.
You can pay online for goods and services using your credit card details if the company you are paying allows this. You can make payments up to the maximum amount agreed between you and the credit card company. Instead of the PIN, you need a different method of authorising the payment. This may be your own password or a security code sent to you in a text message. You can also authorise the payment via online banking or the built-in security functions of the mobile device (facial recognition, biometrics, unlock code or unlock pattern).
All card providers offer different types of credit cards with different names. Your client advisor can explain exactly what the differences are and which services your credit card offers.
The movements of money on your credit card are summarised by the credit card company. The company produces a list of incoming and outgoing payments made to your credit card account. This is called an account statement or monthly bill and is sent to you. You can also view and download it via LGT SmartBanking (the online banking system of LGT Deutschland).
Different fees and charges may be made for the use of a credit card. Your bank will agree these fees and charges with you in the price list or terms and conditions (also known as the overview of prices and services).
You have an obligation to use your credit card safely.
You must take all reasonable precautions to protect the personalised security features of your credit card from unauthorised access.
This means that you must keep your PIN, in particular, secret and also other personal codes and passwords given to you or agreed by you for the use of your physical credit card. Please do not tell anyone these codes, including employees of LGT Deutschland. You should also not save your personalised security features, such as your PIN and other personal codes and passwords, on your mobile device. Make sure when you enter your PIN or your other personal codes and passwords that no one nearby can see what you are entering.
You must have your credit card frozen if it has been stolen, misused or used by another person without your permission or if you have lost it.
You can no longer use your card for payments and cash withdrawals once it has been frozen.
You can have your card frozen in one of the following ways:
To end your credit card agreement, you must terminate it. You can terminate it at any time with effect from the last day of the current month.
You can either do this in person by speaking to your client advisor in bank opening hours or you can contact your credit card company directly.
The credit card company that issued the credit card can terminate the agreement giving a notice period of two months.
