The space economy - between business model and vision

Space is already an economic area: Satellites enable communications, weather forecasting and Earth observation. Philipp Lisibach explains which sectors and applications are already accessible to investors today. PD Dr Marcus Matthias Keupp examines more visionary business models in light of physical limits and the high cost of transporting materials into space.

The two also discuss Europe's role as a technology supplier and how the arms race, militarisation and space debris could affect the civilian and commercial use of space.

In May 2025, his book "Spurwechsel" (Quadriga Publishers) about the consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian war for the world immediately reached the SPIEGEL bestseller list.
