The Collections of the Prince of Liechtenstein are among the most important private art collections in the world.
Glimpses into the Princely Collections
For more than four hundred years, the Princes of Liechtenstein have been passionate art collectors. The Princely Collections include key works of European art stretching over five centuries and are now among the world’s major private art collections. At LGT, we make deliberate use of the works of art in the Princely Collections as imagery to accompany what we do. For us, they embody those values that form the basis for a successful partnership with our clients: a long-term focus, skill and individuality.
For generations, the House of Liechtenstein has consistently nurtured its collections, which are rooted in the Baroque ideal of princely patronage of the arts, and has systematically added to the holdings in keeping with an active acquisition policy that continues to this day.
Passionate collectors
The princes of Liechtenstein have been passionate art collectors for more than 400 years. During this time, they have built up one of the most important private collections in the world, containing major works of European art spanning five centuries.
The Princely Collections now comprise some 1600 paintings and sculptures, including masterpieces dating from the early Renaissance through to the era of Austrian Romanticism. They also contain important works of graphic art, pietra dura objects, enamel items, ivory pieces, ceremonial arms, porcelain, tapestries and furniture that once adorned the castles and palaces of the Princely House of Liechtenstein.
